EXCITE2 DATA PROCESSING TNA CALL INFORMATION

The EXCITE project now offers free-of-charge transnational access (TNA) to world-class European Earth Science Data processing facilities.
The proposed access period runs from February 1st 2025 – July 31st 2025.

Important: only applicants working within the EU+ are eligible to apply (see eligibility rules below).
Important: this call is Transnational only, meaning that you can only apply to an institute that is located in a country other than your affiliation.
Important: it is mandatory to contact the facility manager(s) to discuss the technical feasibility of your proposal, prior to submission. This call gives priority to:

  • early career researchers (i.e. students, PhD candidates, or practicing scientist who received their highest certificate (e.g. BSc, MSc or PhD) within the past seven years).
  • first-time users of the facility (i.e. if you have not used the requested facility before).
  • users who do not have access to equivalent data processing capacity in their country (i.e. no equipment with which to perform the intended research in your country of affiliation).
Eligibility Rules

Important: proposals must meet specific rules to be eligible for TNA. These eligibility rules are:

  • Applicants and/or applicant teams from any European research institutes, SMEs*** or large enterprises** are eligible to apply. If you are working outside the EU+, you cannot apply in this call.
  • The main user and the majority of the user group (>50 % per proposal) must work in a country other than the country where the facility to which they are applying is located. Please don’t forget to check and update your affiliation + country in your FAST account.
  • The user/user group agrees to publish the data related to the TNA project as a data publication in an appropriate Open Access data repository (unless they are working for SMEs). The user/user group also commits to a maximum moratorium period of 6 - 24 months for data publication, starting the day after the TNA project is completed.
  • If peer-reviewed publication(s) result from the data acquired under the TNA activity, the user/user group must ensure Open Access publication –and acknowledge EXCITE2 by using the following acknowledgement: This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101131765 (EXCITE2) for Transnational Access conducted at [FACILITY NAME].

EU+ = EU + countries associated with Horizon Europe = Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, Türkiye, Ukraine, United Kingdom.
Large enterprises** = enterprise that employs more than 250 people.
SMEs***= small and medium-sized enterprises employ fewer than 250 people.
Note:

  • We rely on keywords to match the topic of your proposal to the expertise of the reviewers. We therefore ask you to carefully select three keywords from the EXCITE keyword list. The chosen keywords should be copy-pasted (and comma-separated) in the designated keywords space when submitting your application. This is mandatory.
  • You can request access to one Data Processing facility within the EXCITE consortium. Make sure to contact the facility manager of the requested facility prior to submitting the proposal. This contact is mandatory.

Technical Feasibility
A technical feasibility check with Facility Manager(s), prior to proposal submission, is required for this call.

Early Career Scientists
Applications from early career scientists are prioritized for this call.

Trans-National Access
This is a Trans-national Access call. You can only apply to countries other than your own.
